The Akita Question & Answer Discussion Forum was created on 3/11/2002 to provide people with information regarding the Akita.
This Akita Forum is for everyone who has an interest in the Akita. Whether you are trying to decide if the Akita is the right breed for you, you are a new Akita owner or you have owned Akitas in the past, you are an Akita breeder, if you have questions advice or just love to talk about Akitas, this is the forum you have been looking for.

The Akita Q & A Forum is full of people experienced in ALL facets of Akita ownership. This includes pet owners, breeders, show enthusiasts, obedience enthusiasts, admirers, aspiring Akita owners, and rescuers. If you are looking for input and/or advice...or would like to share said same, please join us!
HOWEVER please do be cautioned that Akita people...like Akitas themselves are loyal, watchful and protective of those they hold dear. Akitas are NOT for everyone, and they are certainly not a breed one can or should choose to BREED or OWN, on a whim or without proper due research, commitment, and advisement.
Those seeking out input on breeding family pets, or dogs purchased from dubious sources, like pet stores, BYB's, and puppy mill operations, may not be aware that this topic is a common one here, and one that causes strong feelings due to our commitment to responsible Akita ownership and breeding ethics. New owners may not in fact even be aware that their beloved pet is FROM any of the above sources. Please be prepared for questions and concerns, and to receive input from the people here, who've seen this situation time and time again. We do not want to judge you, or your dogs on a personal level...and we have only the breed's best interest at heart and a lot of first-hand experience to offer a person willing to listen.
Akitas die daily in shelters due simply to lack of homes, and Akita Rescues are overwhelmed with dogs needing placement, so it is always hard for us to hear that someone would like to breed a litter "Just Because". You WILL find help, advice and experiences on breeding Akitas the responsible way...you WON'T in almost every case find agreement or encouragement in your efforts to breed your pets.

On occasion we will have live chats and usually will post the date and time a few days in advance, sometimes they are spur of the moment, but always alot of fun!
