Akita Memorial
LEND ME A PUP
I will lend to you for a while, a pup, God said. For you to love him while he lives, and mourn him when he's dead. Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.  But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and (should his stay be brief) you'll always have his memories, as solace for your grief.  I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.  But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over, in search of teachers true. And from the folk that crowd's life's land, I have chosen you .  Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain, nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again?
I fancied that I heard him say " Dear Lord Thy Will be Done".  For all the joys this Pup will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may. And for the happiness we've known, forever-grateful stay. But should you call him back much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve.  In memory of him we loved to help us while we grieve. When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife.
We'll have yet another pup, and love him all his life.

      Kuri
Kuri was a rescue who had lived in a 300 square foot back yard with 8 other Akitas. She was basically feral and afraid of her own shadow. We fell in love at first glance and the ten years that followed we built a bond that can never be broken.
I still love you Kuri. You were my heart, my love, and the best friend I have ever had.
You are safe and warm in my heart until we are together again.

Missouri
November 30, 1993 - March 4, 2004
Sweet Missouri....you had been through so much in your lifetime.  Missouri ended up at ARWNY (Akita Rescue)  where Soraya and her husband Jim discovered her and opened their hearts and home to give this much deserving girl the love she so much deserved for the last 11 months of her life.    Missouri needed surgery to remove one of her eyes and she recovered beautifully.  Eventually she lost site in her other eye, but that didn't stop this brave girl or hold her back at all, she had so much spirit she continued on.  On 3/4/04, 18 hours after emergency surgery for a pyometra she passed on to the Rainbow Bridge.....God speed sweet, sweet Missouri, you will never be forgotten.
Lady Bear
October 7, 1992 - March 10, 2004
Lady Bear was the best companion a family could have. We love and miss her terribly.  Lady can never be replaced but I will never be without an akita. There is just something about her that captivated me and my family.

Jack
June 22, 2003 - May 14, 2004
Sweet Jack was diagnosed w/EPI when he was just 7 months old.   Cheryl D. and her family did all they could to save this sweet boy and make his life as comfortable as possible, but Jack lost the battle on May 14th at not quite 1 year old.  You are very loved and missed sweet Jack...until you meet your family at the Bridge one day may you rest in the arms of Angels.

Sioux
February 13, 2001 - September 9, 2004
Those who didn't know him, feared him for what they thought he was.  Those who knew him, loved him for who he was.  He was our friend, our guard, our dance partner, our "son".  We miss our boy named Sioux.......Keep watch with our AngelBabies...we know you will....  Tim, Jen & Angelina
Seiko the Watch Dog
May 1994 - September 2002
Seiko was the soul mate of Connie and best friend of Bill.  He was more than just a dog – he was an Akita.  Connie’s Grandma said: “He was a 'prince' among dogs, a true  'gentleman' if I can say that about a dog. Always so dignified.” He will never be forgotten.                                                                                                                                                                                    Connie
Kenji
July 5, 1994 - March 10, 2006
My sweet Kenji passed early this morning in the arms of my husband, comfortably as possible, and was brought home to be buried in the yard in one of his favorite spots.  He loved walks in the woods and not so much playing with; but just being with my daughter and the rest of the family.
Jim took Kenji for one last walk outside. He told him what a good boy he was, how proud we are of him, and how much we all love him. They gave Kenji the medication and he fell asleep in Jim's arms. Jim looked into his eyes and held his head & paws until he was gone.
I know that Kenji is at peace and enjoying the company of all of those that went before him.
He was such a good, loving, dignified, loyal, and wonderful member of our family and I will miss him everday.                                                                                                          Renee

Fuji
6/15/95 - 2/11/06
We met Fuji as she ran toward us with nine of her brothers and sisters in the breeders yard. Fuji was the only one who came straight to us, checked us out and then ran off to play.  And then she came back, twice, and we said that's the one!
Fuji taught us how to be the "alpha" with gentleness and kindness.  She shared her home with three cats. Three separate times on walks she alerted us to stray cats abandoned in our neighborhood that we were able to save.  When we brought Kado home she accepted him and carefully taught him "the rules".  She only disciplined him once, when he tried to nurse her, and he never forgot who was the boss!
We were devastated when Fuji was diagnosed with bone cancer.  She had been limping for some time but we kept hoping it was "old age" .  The cancer took her from us quickly and when we saw that we could no longer help her with the pain, we let her go.  My husband and I were holding her in our arms and our hearts were truly breaking.
Kado had only known Fuji as his friend and was also truly depressed.  We miss her everyday and pray that we will see her again.

Harley
Birthday Unknown
Harley came into my life through a call for rescue from a kill shelter.  It was abvious he was very old, and very sweet as he shuffled over to me and leaned into my lap.  I took him home and he stayed with us for 3 mights and we packed some great walks, good food, and a special grooming into those days.  He arooed at my two akitas from the kennel and they wagged their tails as they stood and looked at him-they seemed to know he was a good old guy.  I know my Fuji will meet and greet him as will many of the other forum dogs at the rainbow bridge but I would have loved a few more days to absorb his wisdom and gentleness.  God Bless the oldies!

                                                                       Celebration of a life

Mukwa was a rescue dog with a mission to heal the hearts
of humans. With us for nine winters, he traveled for nearly
a decade. Mukwa led an active life that included 250,000
miles of travel, attendance at hundreds of Native American
events and conferences.  He was a much loved guest at the
Grass Lake Community Civic Center.  At the 2007 4-H State Conference, Mukwa was a featured guest. Ever ready, Mukwa traveled for four years with the Anishinaabe Ogitchidaw Warriors Society.  Delighting fluent Ojibwe speakers, Mukwa proved himself a fluent listener of Ojibwemowin.
A white heart on his chest and silky to the touch, he was loved by over 2,000 Michigan school children.  Some of the school districts he traveled to included Alpena, Brighton, Genessee Valley, and several Greater Lansing area schools.  During the summer of 2008, Mukwa met an additional 200 children at Oscoda, Sault Ste. Marie, Hessel, Mt. Pleasant’s 2008 Freedom Walk and Homecoming powwow.  Mukwa was a regular visitor for six years at the Clerical-Technical Union of MSU union hall providing comfort to distressed members.  Mukwa traveled to Pawpaw, Coleman, Alma and Sparrow Health System for his hospice work.
After becoming ill on September 12, he left this earthly plain on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 during the full moon.  Surrounded by his family, his heart stopped at 3:40am.
At sunrise, the north winds came through for the first time of the season to usher Mukwa to his heavenly home.

You will live in our hearts.
